The City of Kalamazoo is currently applying for several grants to fund the first phase of improvements at Milham Park which will include:
Shelter - New shelter with ADA (Americans with Disability Act) tables and ADA accessible walk paths and ramps.
Milham Park is one of the city's most widely used parks. It is considered a regional destination due to its size, variety of recreational amenities and nature offerings. The park has been in the system for over 100 years. It encompasses more than 66 acres with Portage Creek traversing the park. Outside of the playground improvement in 2023, improvements to the park have not taken place in over 20 years.
A Milham Park Master Plan was developed in 2023 which included input from three community meetings held at the park, surveys, and Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. The planned improvements are a result of that master plan process. These grants will fund the first phase of those proposed improvements, with work planned in 2026.
