Restrooms, water fountains, and vehicle gates at some City of Kalamazoo parks have closed for the fall and winter months and will reopen May 1 of next year. Parks will continue to be open year-round, daily from 8 a.m. to sunset.
Southside Park in the Edison neighborhood covers nearly six acres of area and is perfect for small gatherings. A pavilion with two picnic tables and a grill offers a nice spot for a birthday party or afternoon cook out. Not far from the pavilion there is a water fountain and playground. There is also a paved trail around the park, and up the hill from the entrance you'll find a half basketball court and a full soccer field.
The picnic area at Southside Park is available to rent. It's great for gatherings of 20-30 guests that do not need electricity. The cost is $95 for four hours.
Reserve Park Space
Southside Park was developed as part of the Works Progress Administration in 1940 at a cost of approximately $65,000 between the City and Federal Governments.
